One of my benefits of intermittent fasting is that it allows me (& you!) to indulge in treats during my eating window, without feeling like I’ve failed my health goals. In this blog post, I’ll share how intermittent fasting can help you indulge in treats. I’ll also share a delicious recipe for a ZERO cream cheese (it’s a forbidden food in my house!) dirt cake that is perfect for those wanting to add a sweet treat to their eating window.
Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that involves alternating periods of fasting and eating. If you’re a regular around here, you already know that. There are many different approaches to intermittent fasting, but I personally enjoy OMAD – focusing on one meal. Sometimes that One Meal is three courses; snack/appetizer, Entree and then a Dessert.
During the fasting period, you are not allowed to consume any food or drinks with calories. This includes things like coffee with cream and sugar or even a piece of fruit. However, during your eating window, you are free to eat whatever you like. And sometimes what I like is Dirt Cake. I made this last year for my birthday cake and it recently sounded good again.
Thank God with fasting I am able to enjoy treats (including the process of making it) without feeling like a failure. And bonus; I ate a bowl two nights in a row, satisfied the craving and have no desire for more even though we still have some in the fridge! Not being restricted allows me to feel in control and have the ability to say “that’s enough” even with foods I love!
(No Cream Cheese) Dirt Cake Recipe
If you are looking for a delicious treat to enjoy during your eating window, try this no cream cheese dirt cake recipe. It’s easy to make and hubby approved version the traditional dirt cake that typically contains cream cheese. (My husband hates cream cheese, mayo, ranch… many white soft saucy things :P)
Ingredients:
- 1 large box vanilla pudding
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tub cool whip (thawed)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 family size tray (+ a sleeve more if you like more cookies – I do) of Oreos (or off brand like I buy)
Instructions:
- Blend all the oreos until fine – will resemble dirt (aha… that’s where it’s named!!)
(I use this blender) - Mix pudding with milk until smooth
- Whisk in powdered sugar until smooth
- Fold in the cool whip until all mixed
- In any container of choice (I prefer clear glass to see layers! – or my Grandma used to use a flower pot!) layer cookies, then mix over and over again until items run out. Be sure to have oreo/dirt be the top layer.
- If desired (and I always do desire) add in a faux plant. I choose to use a plastic succulent/multiples and wrap in plastic wrap and stick into the top. It looks like a plant growing in the dirt!
My Grandma used to do this with fake flowers. have a vivid memory of this and I LOVED how fun & yummy it was. I didn’t know the word whimsical, but that’s what it was. Now it’s whimsical, nostalgic & delicious! You probably don’t need these final steps, but just incase… - ENJOY
- FAST ON!
