I can hardly believe we’re in 2022! My last fast of 2021 was 26 Hours and 31 minutes long. I had to stretch it one last time. While my minimum daily fast is 18 hours, I like to regularly have a 24 hour fast…. changing things up is part of the fun of fasting for me!
Since it was NYE I wanted to eat later into the evening since we DO stay up until midnight (yes – even my 5 year old did! He actually made it 👏) Because I wanted to have a late window, I just kept fasting and ended the year with a BANG 🎉 After I closed my window we ate all the delicious foods – popcorn, chips with queso, guac, corn & black bean salsa, cheese & crackers…. YUM!
To Eat or Not to Eat?
Today, January 01, I had a tough choice to make and I didn’t make my choice until last minute. We had a family Christmas gathering and it was at noon…. about 3 hours before my 18 hour minimum fast!! I told myself if I wanted to eat I would, and if I wasn’t hungry I would fast. Well spoiler – the food wasn’t anything special (little Caesar’s pizza and store bought value subs – no shame, it was purposely easy for all parties) so I didn’t feel like it was worth breaking my fast for.
I Didn’t Miss Out!
I drank black coffee – my favorite at all times ☕️- and enjoyed the white elephant gift exchange. As we drove home, me still sipping coffee, I was pleased that I didn’t feel tempted and enjoyed the party with or without food!!
First fast of 2022 was 20 hours & 33 minutes. I made dinner and snacked a bit while cleaning up. My eating window was less than 1 hour and I was satisfied! Feels good to start the year strong.
I have toyed with the idea of sharing my daily fasting window and eating window on TikTok &/or Instagram. Is that of value to anyone else? Maybe I’ll just stick to this blog & website. Making this website has been on my to-do list for SO long, and was a New Year’s Resolution.
I hope your 2022 started off great! What was your first fast of the year? I firmly believe each person needs to find their own fasting lengths/groove. I will celebrate all lengths of fast 😁

How do you decide how long your eating window will be our when to open it? I can still eat all day if I let myself, and I’ve been 16:8/18:6 fasting for 5 months. Then I jumped to 36 hour alternate day fasts. Not losing weight. I’ve done some 48 hour fasts and I’m torn between trying longer fasts to lose weight or doing Omad because I do feel deprived when doing longer fasts and I do miss dinners (and weekend breakfasts) will my family. I feel deflated and don’t know what to do to see results. Can I just say that I love you!? I love your honesty, your humor, and your transparency. Keep up the phenomenal work and thank you!!!

Hi Maria- My personal advice would be to avoid alternate day fasting if you feel deprived. I would change your fasting windows, but allow yourself to eat daily. The feeling of deprivation isn’t going to be sustainable and lead to a lifestyle.
