Whoa Nelly, did you see my success rate?! Only 28% of the week did I hit my 18 hour goal of fasting. These were the days we flew in and out of Orlando – travel food options just weren’t my prerogative this trip – DISNEY FOOD was. Naturally, it was easy to fast with just black coffee on my way in and out. Plus, with three kids to keep entertained, hydrated and 8 bags of luggage to cart around – no time for eating at the airport.
Failure?
So I ask you, did I fail this week? 5 out of 7 days I didn’t get my normal/goal. (I use the Zero App and they email me this report weekly incase you’re curious…. I try to share it regularly, too!) And most of the days weren’t OMAD either! On a number only basis, yes, I failed. However, I am celebrating this week! I do not feel like a failure and instead, loved most bites I took. No regret, no wishing for a redo and certainly not hiding my numbers!
Why am I okay with missing the goal so often!? Because vacations are a special occasion. I am a Michigander who had a week in Orlando with my family. I LOVED exploring all the food choices Disney had to offer. I am excited to share it all in future videos and content. It was FUN to take a break from my normal OMAD.
Additionally, I am excited to demonstrate to YOU that fasting is flexible! Go on vacation, have shorter fasts and longer eating windows on occasion. You can see exactly what I ate at Disney here – warning NOT nutrition advice in that video LOL What you do regularly has a much greater impact than the occasional vacation – from normal life & normal eating schedules.
I didn’t want my family vacation to be anything other than fun – and FUN to me is often revolved around delicious foods!
I went on Vacation with Permission to Fail!
Yes, you read that right. I planned to not fast 18 hours a day. This permission allowed me to not feel bad when inevitable I hit “stop fast” earlier than I normally do. Instead, I knew it was likely I would eat multiple meals a day and I planned accordingly!
Even during a hurricane – yes, we were in Orlando durning Hurricane Ian! – I was able to enjoy new foods, seek out deliciousness and not worry about fasting.
Do as I say, Not as I do!
One day I even opened my eating window with alcohol. Our Pizza took 5 HOURS (hello hurricane panic) to get…. so adjustments were made. I ate some VooDoo chips and an “All That Jazz” adult slush. Now opening my eating window with alcohol wasn’t my wisest move – def. not what I recommend… but it helped pass the waiting time and was delicious. Bonus, my fast wasn’t super longer beforehand either, so I was in less trouble than a normal eating window.
I have so many planned videos sharing a week of shorter fasts and longer windows. Click here to see that playlist (once available). And if you’re looking for permission to enjoy vacation and getting back to fasting later…. here it is – you have permission!

Out of all the alcoholic drinks you had, which was your favorite, and why?
That caramel apple Crown Royal slush looked pretty good. But so did the All That Jazz (what’s in that, anyway?) And I love rum and Coke, so that slush sounds pretty awesome, too.
Which was your favorite food? That taco cone looked so yummy! But those hot dogs that you shared with Elsie looked the best to me.
I hope someday I’ll be able to take my husband and boys to Disney. It’s a bit iffy because my 3 boys are all autistic, which makes doing normal family things pretty tricky. But hopefully, fingers crossed, it will be something that we can do.

My favorite drink for sure was the Crown Royal Caramel Apple. Delicious! My favorite food was the same place; the Korean BBQ Poutine. It was a phenomenal meal over all. I hope that you get to find a way to experience Disney with your family, too 💕
