FUN in Fundraising!
Hey there, party people! I want to share with you my experience at an elementary school fundraiser. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “A fundraiser? That sounds boring!” But trust me, this was no ordinary fundraiser.
This was a Trivia Night – parents only!!! – filled with delicious appetizers, tasty drinks, and good company. And the best part? I didn’t have to worry about missing out on any of the fun because of my intermittent fasting.
What helped me enjoy the evening?
For those of you who may not know, intermittent fasting is a dietary pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and periods of fasting. There are many different ways to do it, but the basic idea is that you restrict your eating window to a certain number of hours each day. Some people do it for weight loss, some for health benefits, and some just because they find it easier to stick to rather than traditional diets. You probably understand by now, I choose to restrict the WHEN, not the WHAT!

So, back to the fundraiser. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted with a QR code linked to their menu for the evening. In the past if I were dieting, I would be torn between wanting to indulge in all the delicious food/drinks and worrying about the calories and how it would affect my diet. But not anymore.
Thanks to my intermittent fasting, I had shifted my eating window to later in the day, so I knew I could enjoy my selections guilt free. I didn’t have to worry about counting calories or feeling guilty for indulging in a few too many treats. I was able to fully immerse myself in the event and enjoy the company of the other parents and faculty members without any distractions.
In fact, I found that I was able to appreciate the food even more because I wasn’t obsessing over it. I didn’t have FOMO (fear of missing out) while socializing. Moving my eating window to the event allowed me to participate and be present! It was liberating to be able to let go of the diet mentality and just enjoy myself.
As the night went on, I continued to enjoy the festivities and the food without any worry. I sipped on a few drinks, and shared an appetizer with my husband. We chose the pretzel rods with house made beer cheese dip and beer cheese mustard. And when it was time to head home, I did so with a full belly and a happy heart.
So, what’s the moral of the story? Intermittent fasting can be a great way to enjoy events like this without feeling like you’re missing out on all the fun. By shifting your eating window to coincide with the event, you can indulge in all the food and drinks without any guilt or distraction. And who knows, you might even enjoy the food more when you’re not obsessing over it! So the next time you have a party or event to attend, consider trying out intermittent fasting and see how it can enhance your experience.
